What is Rolfing?

Rolfing is a technique of deep tissue manipulation and movement education aimed at the release and realignment of the body. The ultimate goal is a pain free, balanced body. Rolfing is named after its founder Dr. Ida Rolf, Ph.D. Dr. Rolf, a biochemist, became fascinated with gravity and the effects of gravity on the human body.  She studied many systems of healing and manipulation and then combined her research with her study if gravity to develop a form of body work called Structural Integration, also known as Rolfing.  She placed emphasis on the knowledge that the human body is an arrangement of consistent systems of tissues and not actually a collection of detached parts. Rolfing bodywork influences the body’s stance, posture, and structure by working on the Myofascial connective tissue framework.  Rolfing is a deep tissue approach that works with all layers of the body to release stress and to ease the strain in the entire body.   See Kimberly for Rolfing Services in Vancouver Canada

The Ten Series

The entire body is addressed throughout a series of sessions. Instead of just focussing on a localized area of pain, the entire body is treated resulting in step-by-step improvements in their entire body

Why you should try Rolfing

Research has shown that Rolfing has the ability to dramatically alter a persons posture and structure promoting balance and length.  Rolfing has been shown to resolve discomfort, release tension and alleviate pain.

Rolfing can decrease chronic pressure, lessen spinal arch in subjects with lordosis, swayback posture, forward neck posture and improve neurological connections through movement education. Rolfing has been proven to have long term effects on the body.  Along with the benefit of  relaxation and relief from muscle discomfort, Rolfing is focused to bring the body back to a balanced state which has been affected by wear and tear, injuries and repetitive movements such as hunching at a computer or carrying heavy shoulder bags.

Rolfing can accelerate and speed up recovery of injuries by reducing stiffness, pain, solidness, and muscle pressure. It improves circulation in the body and around the joints and also improves the natural movements of the body.

Basically, the Rolfing procedure empowers the body to recapture the natural capacity of its structure. In this manner, your postural efficiency is enhanced and it gives freedom of movement.
